Meet Sarah

Hi, welcome to our new online home! I’m Sarah. Some of you know me (hi, guys!) but a lot of you don’t because I like to hide out in the back office crunching numbers and stuff. The cameras intimidate me a little bit so I tend to stay away from them. It is also my job to taunt the photographers. Mostly Dave, though, because Britta’s just too sweet.

I’ve had cameras in my face pretty consistently since 1999. That tends to happen when you date and then marry a photographer. Dave always says this stuff will end up on the Internet, so I might as well post it before he does. It’s my best only defense, right?

I always say I’m in trouble if I die before he does… he’ll make sure my wake is chock full of embarrassing photos. On the other hand, there might not be room for any people with the room full of giant prints, so it might end up ok.

I’m here because I’m the ‘civilian’ part of Milestones, I have a point-and-shoot that I keep on auto… and mostly in my purse. My talents lie outside of the photography realm. (I’ll fascinate you with those later.) But I love good photography, and surrounding myself with brilliant photographers is a pretty great way to spend my days.

Morea - Love this, but especially love your sign-off :)

dave - She is the photo queen!

Megan Wold - I love these pictures, I’m thankful that there are those real mother pictures in the photo family.

Wedding Wednesday: BHLDN

Each Wednesday, the ladies of Milestones (aka Sarah and myself) will share our favorite tidbits in the wedding world. It will be part wedding fashion, part do-it-yourself and part wedding randomness.

I couldn’t think of a better way to begin Wedding Wednesday than showing you some of my favorite gowns from the newly launched BHLDN, the wedding branch of the fabulous Anthropologie. I was drooling from the moment I hopped on to their new site (I even asked my husband if we could get married again just so I could wear one of these fabulous gowns). There is no doubt I’ve always been a sucker for simple silhouettes and these soft ivory and white gowns are no exception. They are beautiful, modern and extremely sophisticated.

Now, enough with my endless gushing. Here are a few of my favorite gowns paired with some stellar accessories.

The Trumpeted Pavot Gown is by far my favorite. I love the belt, the sweetheart neckline and the beautiful detailing. It’s paired  here with the Bow-Topped Slingbacks (blush) shoes and modern Deco Feather Clip.

The Pinwheel Tea Dress would be perfect for a small garden wedding. I love the adorable Elopement Pumps (which I would totally wear to a wedding or on a random Tuesday) and the vintage Silk Coil Hat.

Isn’t the Burnished Organza Gown incredibly sweet and soft? I like it paired with the Moonlit Peep Toes (with the Pom Pom Clip) and the aqua Saturn Drop earrings.

So, the Origami Pleated Dress is not a “wedding dress” but I thought it would work perfectly for a courthouse wedding. To spice it up, I paired it was these incredibly funky Agave Pump Toes shoes and the beautiful Lanquid Bow Headband.

I can’t leave the bridesmaids out! Here are a few of my favorite dresses from BHLDN. From left: Beribboned Dress in Pewter, Savoy Dress in Raspberry and the Rivulet Dress in Celadon.

Jill + Eric

Over the last couple of years, we’ve noticed an increasing amount of autumn weddings. And why not? The cool, changing temperatures coupled with the emergence of beautiful warm colors make autumn an awesome season for an upper midwest wedding. This September, Jill and Eric were given the most beautiful autumn day for their wedding.

Jill & Eric are seriously a super couple and have a great relationship rooted in humor and friendship. Jill was remarkably organized (a fantastic trait in my book) and both Jill and Eric seemed to be having a blast all day long. They were married at Hope Lutheran South with a reception held at the Hilton Garden Inn.

The talented Ann Arbor Miller was my trusty second shooter throughout the day. I just love the shots she took of Eric getting ready at his (and Jill’s) South Fargo home.

Penny - I can’t get over the new site. I love it so much. Great work team.

britta - Thanks so much Penny! We miss you :)

Introducing… Milestones!

We’ve been talking a lot lately about some big changes coming to the studio. Well, they’re here! You can see the most obvious one right up there: our new corporate identity logo. We decided it was time to spice things up around here. Also, we’re from the MTV Generation and we tend to get bored pretty easily. So on with the new!

The other big, obvious thing is our new blogsite. Ta-dah! We thought it would be fun to host an interactive space where things could be more conversational, and we wanted to make it easier for you to engage with us. We have comments now!

Putting our blog right out front will allow us to share more of our own ideas as well as cool stuff (and sites) we think you’ll like. You’ll also learn more about each of us — Dave, Britta, and Sarah — behind the Milestones logo. Maybe more than you ever wanted to know, but that’s why the Internet was invented, right?

Now, all of this is nice and good, and… well… cosmetic. There are other changes going on behind the scenes, the biggest of which is that we’re going boutique. Um…. whaaa? That’s just my fancy way of saying we don’t want to be the biggest shop in town. Just the best. We’ve decided to sign only one wedding per day, so our clients can count on the photographic genius of both Dave and Britta when they hire us. We’re focusing on giving our clients a fantastic customer experience. We’re also developing some ways to give back to our loyal clients, the ones who have helped us build this place by telling all their friends. And yes, that might mean you. But you’ll hear more about that later.

Oh, and just in case you had some favorites over on our old blog, you’ll still be able to find them here.

So for now, thanks for checking us out! And add us to your RSS reader. We’ve got a lot to say!

Jessica + Nate’s Engagement Session

Oh! 2011 is going to chock-full of weddings I’m excited to shoot… and Jessica and Nate’s June wedding is no exception! They are super cool, a little dorky (yay!), very, very nice and they like beer!

The couple met during their college years while both working a summer job at the Rose Creek Golf Course. Naturally, it became the backdrop for our Autumn engagement session. We had a blast wandering the golf course grounds and grabbing a quick beer in the bar.
